The Welch Allyn Ophthalmoscope is intended to be used to view the back of the eye, commonly called the fundus, and is a useful diagnostic aid in studying other ocular structures. It is used to support the diagnosis of ocular structure conditions and for viewing ocular abnormalities that may be indicative of conditions elsewhere in the body.

The patented Welch Allyn Coaxial Vision System facilitates ophthalmoscopy further by enabling easier entry into the eye, a larger field of view, and reduced glare compared to standard ophthalmoscopes. The Coaxial optics with LED Illumination produces shadow-free viewing as well.
